This train, from the Poplar River Mine, is heading back to the open pit coal mine located north of the town of Coronach, after dumping one of many loads per day that is delivered to SaskPower’s Poplar River Power Station, that is located south-east of Coronach.   Coal from the mine is used in the production of power at the power station. The Poplar River Mine began deliveries to the power station over thirty years ago.  The mine and plant hosted open houses and an evening banquet on October 16 to celebrate the delivery of 100,000,000 tonnes of coal from Sherritt Coal’s Poplar River Mine to SaskPower’s Poplar River Power Station.  See next week’s edition of the Triangle News for local coverage of the events.
