The Cam Fritz Memorial Motorcycle Ride/Road Trip was held on June 2nd, 2012. There was an excellent turnout including over 50 motorcycles, 60 riders and a few automobiles. The participants came from all over including Coronach, Willow Bunch, Rockglen, Assiniboia, Limerick, Moose Jaw, Regina, and Scobey.
The day started out a hot sunny day as the bikes headed east towards the Port of Big Beaver to travel one of Cam’s favorite circuits on his motorcycle. There was a short delay at the border and then the ride continued to the first stop in Flaxville, MT. Many of the riders stopped to go into the local establishments for a visit and refreshment. After Flaxville, it was on to Scobey, Four Buttes and then to Peerless. The sky had started to darken, and by the time most of the bikes pulled out of Peerless they had donned their rain gear and continued the rest of the ride in the rain. The rain did not damper the spirits of the bikers as they continued on to Opheim and back into Canada with one last stop at Rockglen before heading to Fife Lake for supper at the Fife Lake Hotel.
The ride was organized by Wayne Giraudier, Deb Malesh and Emily Clauson in memory of their good friend Cam Fritz who had a passion for motorcycles. Cam’s wife and daughter were participants in the ride and were very touched to see the number of people who had come together to ride, remember and reminisce about Cam.
The great turn out for this ride has encouraged the organizers to make this an annual event scheduled for the first weekend for June. It is hoped that all of this year’s participants and other bike enthusiasts show up for another great ride next year.
