The Saskatchewan High School Rodeo Association (SHSRA) Sixth Annual Big Beaver Rodeo was held August 21 and 22 in Big Beaver.
Although the heat and dust proved to be a bit bothersome, it was welcome after the finals in Martensville where SHSRA cowboys and cowgirls had to contend with mud and rain.
Big Beaver exploded in size over the weekend with dozens of campers and horse trailers pulling in for the weekend.
The Big Beaver Rodeo is the first rodeo of the season, with entries due before school begins for the year which many times causes a last minute scramble to get all of the necessary paper work in order.
Organizers were pleased with the number of entries and cowgirls and cowboys look forward to a busy year ahead.
Highlights for the local cowboys and cowgirls was the first place finish for Brittany Goruick in Breakaway Roping, with Meg Mulvena hot on her tail in second.
In the Wrangler Division, Zane Marcenko picked up the first place buckle in Goat Tying and Breakaway Roping.
