The wind howled, the leaves flew and the ghosts and goblins were on the move!

Halloween fell on Monday this year, with trick or treaters hitting the streets at 3:10 when the end-of-day bell rang at the Coronach School.

Temperatures hovered in the single digits, but a brisk wind that came up in late afternoon, made for unpleasant conditions for the children making their rounds.

The wind died down soon after dark, but most trick or treaters had already headed for home. Streets that have normally been busy with witches and warlocks darting from house to house, were quiet. Readers reported big declines in the number of costumed kids at their doors this year.  Most reported half of what they have had in the past, with the odd one reporting more.  Numbers reported ranged from 25 to 65, with some remembering years when they handed out treats to 200 kids.

No damage was reported from tricker activity although a few windows were in need of a wash.
