2012 Borderland Music Festival celebrated the achievements of music students and their teachers during the Final Concert & Festival of the Stars, Thur. April 5, 2012 in the Rockglen School Gymnasium.

The festival saw an increase of student entries, which was brought about by the presence of music teacher, Mrs. Dorothea Trithardt teaching in the Rockglen school this year. Thanks to the vision of Rockglen School Principal, Mrs. Michelle Marcenko for seeing the opportunity to allow music education to be fulfilled in the school.

The festival committee was very thankful to have two gifted Adjudicators juror the music competitors. Piano adjudicator, Mrs. Adrianne Sailor, from Saskatoon spoke to the performers saying, “The real winners are those who are still playing and studying music in 10 years time!” She stressed the importance of hard work, practice and not giving up on your gifts and talents in music. Mrs. Sailor shared a rule in her Saskatoon piano studio. “ My music Students ONLY have to practice on the days you EAT!!”

Our Vocal Adjudicator, Miss Mary Joy Nelson, currently studying and teaching in Lexington, Kentucky, also gave all vocal competitors helpful advice to improve their talents. She marveled at the talent in this Southern Saskatchewan town, after just adjudicating at a Music Festival in Winnipeg, MB, she said, “The talent here is equally as good as anywhere I have seen. You should be very proud, and thankful for the gifted students and teachers.” Both of these fine women stressed the significance music plays in the success of students, not only in the discipline of music, but in the arena of life!

The Borderland Festival thanks its sponsors for their continued support. With your donations, the festival was able to award over $2200 in music scholarships!
