The 8th Annual Rockglen Arts in the Park is set to go on Saturday June 9, 2012, running from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Organizer Laurel Kirby talked about how the event got going. “Initially Arts in the Park was created to promote and encourage local artists of which there is abundance. We continue to add fresh and fascinating talent each year.”
Arts in the Park has grown significantly since inception. “This will be our 8th annual and with the help of the many volunteers we are able to host this unique event.” said Kirby.
Whether you are an artist or just enjoy the arts there is much to see and do. There are classes and demonstrations instructed by professional artists. Many of which have donated their time and expertise.
Some classes that will be offered: Watercolour with Sandra Lamontagne; Paint an Adirondack Chair with Sandra Knoss; Photography with Wanda Knoss; Pottery with Jay Kimball; Basket Weaving with Beth Crabbe; Silk Scarf Dyeing with Louise Perrin; Steamroller Printmaking.
You can also watch a demonstration: Knife Making — Bob Robson, Wood Carving — Rosemarie Robson; Pottery — Richard Kimball & Suzanne Hawkes; Cake Decorating - Melba Griffin; Antique Rug Hooking — Terry Lynn Carefoot.
Sit back and enjoy the live entertainment portion featuring SCMA nominee Gina Stewart, as well as Johnny & Maureen Sabourin, some of Dorthea Trithardt’s music students Jeremy Packet, Jennifer Packet to name a few.
There will also be many exhibits including fabric art, bird carving, paintings, photography (including Group of Ten) and other art forms.
The Artisan Market has grown also with several artists offering their crafts for sale such as Paintings, Photographs, Jewelry, Crochet work, Hair Accessories, Baby Products, Bead Work or Furniture.
Kids will enjoy time spent at the craft table and the Face Painting.
The Silent Auction Fundraiser theme this year is ‘Chairs’ and the organizers invite you to place your bid.
Plan to arrive early for the Pancake Breakfast sponsored by the Rockglen Business Association.
