Local cowboys and cowgirls compete in finals

The 2011-12 Saskatchewan High School Rodeo Season has wrapped up for another year.

The finals were, once again, held at the OK Corral, near Martensville.

Cowboys and cowgirls from across the province competed from Thursday, May 31 thru June 2, 2012 in the year-end competition.

Maykayla Moen was named the Rodeo Queen.

In the High School division, Riley Hayes was named the Rookie Boy of the year; Demi Phillips was named the Rookie Girl.

The All-around title went to Ty Ellis with the All-around Cowgirl going to Briar Gonie.

Rodeo Mom Carla Froshaug explained the finals, “Top four have qualified for Canadian finals in Virden, MB. Also they qualify for nationals; Juniors in Gallup, new Mexico and Seniors in rock springs, Wyoming.”

Local cowboys and cowgirls that roped in a top-ten finish included Rockglen’s Meg Mulvena who took first place in Goat Tying and Breakaway Roping.

Brittney Goruick had a fourth place finish in Pole Bending, sixth in Breakaway.

Brooke Stewart was eighth in Breakaway.

Brittney and Brooke teamed up for a seventh place finish in Team Roping.

George Marcenko tied up fourth place in Tie Down Roping and third place in team roping, with partner Clay Brownlee.

In the Junior Division, Tyson Thue, from Bengough, was named the Rookie Boy of the year, with Shelby Lockie winning the Rookie Girl.

All around cowboy went to Tee McLeod; all around cowgirl to Bliss Peters.

Coronach cowgirl, Jaclyn Noll won second place in Barrel Racing and Breakaway, seventh in Pole Bending and Goat Tying. Jaclyn and partner Maclin Anderson tied up first place in Ribbon Roping.

Kassidy Williamson grabbed first place in Breakaway Roping, second in Goat Tying and sixth in Pole Bending. Kassidy teamed up with Chanse Cutler for a fifth place finish in Ribbon Roping.

Rockglen’s Maclin Anderson won first place in Tie Down Roping, second in Chute Dogging and Goat Tying. Maclin and partner Logan z placed second in Team Roping.

Rockglen’s Zane Marcenko placed first in Goat Tying, second in Breakaway and third in Chute Dogging. Zane paired up with Tee McLeod to win the Team Roping event. He also picked up a third place in Ribbon Roping with partner Bliss Peters.

Tanner Froshaug, from Minton, placed sixth in Breakaway, seventh in Goat Tying and third in Team roping with partner Chanse Cutler. Tanner and partner Bailey Briere placed fourth in Ribbon Roping.

Brady Resch, Coronach/Maple Creek cowboy placed seventh in Chute Dogging, seventh in Breakaway and sixth in Bull Riding. Brady and partner Tyson Thue from Bengough placed sixth in Team Roping.

As well, Tyson placed sixth in Goat tying and eighth in Bull Riding.
