Coronach New Horizons hosts Senior's Fun Day

On Wednesday, May 29th, the Coronach New Horizons club hosted a seniors fun day with participants coming from Rockglen, Bengough, Big Beaver, Ogema, Willowbunch, and the Coronach area.  80 people were pre-registered for the event.

The day started with some opening comments by Tillie Duncan and the national anthem.  After the opening ceremonies the participants dispersed to either the Drop In Centre, Southwinds Manor, or Pretty Valley Lodge for a variety of games.  The Drop In Centre held the Cribbage, Low Card Rummy, 10 of Diamonds, 8 Ball, and Table Shuffleboard tournaments.  The Bridge and Trump Whist tournaments were held at Pretty Valley Lodge, and the Norwegian Whist and Smear tournaments were held at Southwinds Manor.  After a morning of cards the participants came back to the Drop In Centre for lunch from KFC then dispersed again for more games.  The winners were as follows:

 

Bridge:  In first place was Marion Spagrud and Carla Yost from Rockglen.  In second place was Helen Kessler and Adam Kessler from Rockglen.  In third place was Lorraine Rondeaw and Ida Beatul from Rockglen.

 

Cribbage:  In first place was Bob Smith and Mable Shain from Coronach.  In second place was Joan Shenner and Peter Shenner from Bengough.  In third place was Nic Frank and Ella Frank from Bengough.

 

8-Ball:  In first place was Dale Leflar from Bengough.

 

10 of Diamonds:  In first place was Lola Gerde and Bernice Foley from Coronach.  In second place was Phyllis Mills and Eleanor Jolleffon from Bengough.  In third place was Ken Anderson and Andy Giraudier from Coronach.

 

Norwegian Whist:  In first place was Eileen Gee and Lorraine Jensen from Bengough.  In second place was Bernice Leonard and Louise Pingert from Ogema.  In third place was Dorothy Johnstone and Rosina Planz from Coronach.

 

Trump Whist:  In first place was Blanch Verboom and Bea Struthers from Ogema.  In second place was Linda Dunn and Jean Hill from Ogema.  In third place was Grace Justus and Bernice Bilbeck from Rockglen.

 

Low Card Rummy:  In first place was Eugene Lesperance from Willowbunch.  In second place was Ina Lee from Coronach.  In third place was Muriel Horner from Ogema. 

 

Smear:  In first place was Maxine Thurlow and Yvonne Gillis from Coronach.  In Second place was Helen Gravelle and Muriel Lee from Bengough.  In third place was Betty Kessler and Ang Giraudier from Coronach.

 

Table Shuffleboard:  In first place was Rita Bayer and Carolyn Mills from Willowbunch.  In second place was Marilyn Mead and Florence Galbraith from Ogema.  In third place was Jo Leflar and Myrel Cairns from Bengough.

 

In addition to the ribbons for first, second, and third place, the participants were also entered into a door prize for attending the event.  Those winners are as follows:

 

Bea Struthers from Ogema won Salon Products.

Myrel Cairns from Bengough won the prize from SGI.

Blanch Verboom from Ogema won the prize from Conexus.

Doris Whyte from Bengough won the prize from May B Sew.

Carla Yost from Rockglen won a gift certificate.

Marilyn Mead from Ogema won the prize from Deb’s Country Kitchen.

Lorraine Jensen from Bengough won the prize from Acklands-Grainger.

Yvonne Gillis from Coronach won the prize from Andy Giraudier.

Maxine Thurlow from Coronach won the prize from CIBC.

Eleanor Murray from Ogema won the prize from Head to Toe.

Ina Lee from Coronach won the prize from RC’s Chinese Restaurant.

Kenneth Anderson from Coronach won the prize from the Co-Op.

Florence Galbraith from Ogema won the prize from Triangle News.

Doreen Campbell from Bengough won the prize from Bernice Foley.

Carolyn Mills from Willowbunch won the prize from Charlie’s Place.

Phyllis Mills from Bengough won the prize from the Poplar River Pharmacy.

Evelyn Palfy from Coronach won the prize from the Willowbunch Greenhouse.

 

The event changes venues every year.  Next year the event will be held in Rockglen.
