Returning Officer Murray Setrum released the official results of the February 29 by-election. George Peacock was declared Mayor with 155 votes. Troy Bartlett, current alderman, got 55 votes.
Peacock was pleased, “I am happy with the results, obviously and I am looking forward to getting involved. I would like to thank all of the voters who came out to vote, regardless of who they voted for.”
Peacock said, “The work actually starts on our first meeting on March 13, I will be spending the time between now and then getting up to speed on the issues, such as infrastructure and health care concerns.”
“Thanks to all of the other candidates that allowed their name to stand and I look forward to working with the successful candidates.” said Peacock.
In the alderman race, Dean Moser was elected with 159 votes, as well as Cory Schnell with 138 votes. Dot (Dorothy Lewis) was defeated with 74 votes.
Following the election of a new mayor and two new alderman and Bartlett’s continuation of his role as alderman, the seats on council are full. Town council elections will be held again in the fall, where all seats will be up for reelection.
Setrum was pleased with voter turn-out. “Turn-out was good for the by-election, with similar voting numbers as 2006 and 2009.”
Setrum reported the 2006 election had a turn out of 201 voters, 2009 - 223 and the current by-election - 211 voters.
