Well, it was another busy week at the Triangle News. Kelly was away for the first two days of the week, and I must say, I have a whole new appreciation for what she does around the office and for the Triangle News. For one person to do this job on their own is nearly impossible. (Ok, maybe I’m trying to win some brownie points. I’m severely lacking in the points department right now around the office. I always seem to come up with the wrong answer or am out-smarted in some way by Kelly. But then again, that’s not exactly hard to do.)
And now, here we go with my first, of probably many ramblings on the Edmonton Oilers. The first game was televised a week ago Sunday. Ok, fine, it was only a rookie game against the Vancouver Canucks’ rookies, but it still counts in my books. And anytime the Oilers can lay a 7-2 beating on the Canuckleheads, that’s fun too.
Seeing first overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins play in Oilers’ silks for the first time was exciting. The kid has some amazing vision on the ice and made some incredible passes. Swedish center Anton Lander was also impressive, really hoping he will be the third line shut down guy of the future. Defenseman Martin Marincin was very solid as well, I don’t think he made a mistake all night.
Sorry, if I’m boring you with hockey talk this early in September. Normally, I’d be all geared up for the stretch run of the CFL season, but the Argonauts season has been a collosal disaster so far. But I guess this is the CFL and a team is never really out of the playoff race. But nothing in the Argos’ play this season has given me much confidence for them to turn things around. I’m glad to see them get rid of Cleo Lemon, maybe Stephen Jyles can get his play up to speed and move the team in the right direction before it’s too late. Or, maybe they should change coaches? It has seemed to work for the Riders so far.
Ok, now I’m going to try to win some points with the Coronach RCMP. They called last week about a bike that was found in a vacant lot on Municipal Road at the end of August, and asked if we could mention it somewhere in the newspaper. It’s a silver Mongoose kid’s mountain bike, so if anyone is missing a bike or knows who it belongs to, call the Coronach RCMP at 267-1830.
Hmmm, I wonder if me mentioning that will get me out of my next speeding ticket? Yeah, probably not.
