Back to work and what a busy week.
It has been pretty quiet around the Triangle News office since Christmas, but I think we had more news than we could even handle this week. That is nice. Especially when school break is on. There is nothing worse than having to come to work when people are still sleeping and then not having much to do when you get to work!
Well, that was no problem this week. And, just as we were wrapping up the paper for the week, Boycie called to report the bale fire that was happening on the highway. Be sure to check out the photos in this issue.
Fire is such a fascinating thing. It is scary, that is for sure, mostly because of how unpredictable it is. As always, the fire attracted quite a crowd. Many lent a hand, but for most, there wasn’t much one could do but stand, watch and snap photos.
A couple of snow flakes are falling as I write my column today. Darren and I are quite convinced that this winter will not go down without at least one big storm. I thought that my cousin, Kevin, had jinxed us last weekend when we were curling in the bonspiel in Bengough. He recalled a time that our cousin, Lee, couldn’t get home after a bonspiel when a big storm settled in. When I awoke last Sunday morning, the ground was covered and it was snowing heavily. It was short-lived though and the roads were clear before we headed back to Bengough for our last day of curling.
This was my first year curling in the Bengough Open Spiel and it was such fun. I love the atmosphere that surrounds a small-town spiel, and Bengough could be the postcard for the perfect small-town spiel.
Everyone is so friendly! They all know my name, even if I forget all of their’s! And for sure you can have a home-made burger, soup and top it all off with a delicious home-made dessert.
Our team, that was made up of me, Grant, Dallas and Kevin had a great weekend of curling and ended up winning the B event. Thanks to everyone for their hospitality and great prizes that we won!
We are hosting our annual spiel March 10-11, in memory of Shawna Nickolson, who was an active member of our club for many years. I hope to see lots of teams and the same great time we had in Bengough! See you there!!
