As I write this column, the ice in the Sportsplex is melting, signaling the end of hockey and curling season, and for me. . . the end of winter!!

Kylee Kupper’s team is still playing at Notre Dame and I guess the Notekeu wasn’t quite wrapped up when we went to press, but probably they will be done by the time you read this, and that will be it for our scoreboard!

We always have trouble getting people to submit ball scores, but that would be great if we could get the teams to send in their ball scores.

Most complain about winter and how long it always seems, but boy, this winter, it sure flew by! What winter, you might say! Well, I for one will take it!

What a beautiful weekend we had for the Shauna Nickolson Memorial Bonspiel!  We pretty much spent all day Saturday and Sunday in the curling rink, but when we popped our heads outside, you would swear it was a May day!!

We certainly had a good weekend at the curling rink, with many people coming home for the weekend to curl or traveling to Coronach to curl in our spiel.  People don’t go town to town like they used to, curling in everyone’s open spiel, but we were very happy to see our neighbours from Rockglen, Willow Bunch, Big Beaver and Bengough join us.  As well, of course, we had Shauna’s family, many from Saskatchewan, but many from Alberta.  The successful bonspiel gave our club a shot in the arm that we really needed.  It is difficult to keep the doors open with only 10 teams curling.  We were very thankful to the Merchant hockey team for supporting us this year.  If you have ever thought that you should start curling or that you should dig that broom out of the closet and get back out on the ice. . . now is the time!!  Before it’s too late!!!

Thank you to everyone who has complimented us on the new layout of the paper and dropped by to comment on the “Darren vs Kelly” banter! I know I lost the Twitter Wars, but I can still take him when it comes to spitting out a column or a quick article!  I know he is funny and quality is always better than quantity, but sometimes, we just need quantity!!  All joking aside, we appreciate the compliments and that you continue to read our columns and our paper.

Did you get your campsite booked for this summer?  I really liked that they changed the booking date for Saskatchewan parks to March from January 1.  Who has time during Christmas and New Years to think about summer holidays.  Well, I mean I think about Craven year round, but I already have those sites. . . of course.  I didn’t end up booking a campsite, but there were lots left on the second day when my phone reminded me.  I put in the wrong date for the reminder in my phone, and if my phone doesn’t remind me, I forget it!

Some might say that I have become too reliant on my phone to help me remember, but I am so forgetful, I need the help!

Well, I better wrap this up for this week and head home and get ready for our dance weekend in Weyburn.  Bring on the glitter and hairspray. . . cough, cough. . .
