What a great dance recital last weekend! I really enjoyed it and heard many great comments!  Great job everyone!

This past week was spent getting ready for the big Coronach Merchant Hockey Cabaret that I am sure a few of us are still recovering from.  No doubt I will have no voice as it always suffers from a long night of singing at the top of my lungs!  Thank goodness I don’t work in radio!

As I write this, I feel the excitement I used to have on Rodeo weekend! And, the weather was supposed to be nice so l really hope that the weather really made it feel like a rodeo day, when it was usually a beautiful fall day when the family would start rolling in. This time there will be no horse trailers, but I am sure we had lots of fun!

There is nothing I like better than a full house and a dance to go to! Top it all off with my son and band playing and it doesn’t get much better.

I credit this part of my character to my Grandma Hicks, who as far back as I can remember, always had a houseful.  And my love of a dance, that I will credit to my Grandma Holbrook!  She loved to dance and enjoyed music all of her life.

I remember as a little kid, lining up with all of my cousins, on Grandma Hicks’ living room floor, side by side to sleep. Well my plan wasn’t to have my guests sleep on my living room floor, but I am quite certain there will have been a few lined up on my basement living room floor, or the “rumpus” room.

My kids laugh when my Mom says “rumpus” room, but that’s what they were called! Right?? What’s the correct word now? Family room? Not many times my family gathers there (too messy!). . . Rec room? That’s more likely as many things have been “rec’d” down there by unsupervised kids. . . and somewhat big kids.

I like the word “rumpus”! That’s what that room has been used for. Definition of Rumpus - “A noisy disturbance; uproar” or the definition of Rumpus Room - “A room for play or informal parties”. That pretty much sums it up!

If everyone came that was expected, both my sisters and most of their families and six of my first cousin’s kids joined us for the weekend. FUN!!

This week will be our preparations for our Grad Issue. Next week you can look forward to all of the beautiful cap and gown photos of our latest group of Grade 12s.

Grad weekend is fast approaching and then it will be another weekend where houses will be full and the Sportsplex will be humming!! FUN!!

Speaking of fun, have you been enjoying the Lookin’ Back feature of the paper?  I have had such fun flipping through the pages of the old papers and picking out some stuff to share.  It is such a trip back in time to see all of the names of those who lived here back then.  There have been so many good people who have made their way through our community over the years.

I wish we had some older ones yet, to take some our seniors back to their teens, as that where it takes me.  1983 was the year that I going to school in Moose Jaw and like many of the kids this past weekend, I was driving home every weekend to spend time with my friends and family.

I do wish that we could get back some of those numbers that we had back in the 80s, to fill up our school, our boards and all of our teams.  Can you believe that we had 194 bowlers in 1983?  And now we have none.  That is sad …

Well, I didn’t mean to end on a sad note, but have a great week and keep reading!!
