When you pick up this week's paper, I should be skimming down the slopes in Whitefish, MT. Or maybe sitting by the fireplace at the cabin. . . when I wrote this, I hadn't really decided yet whether I would ski or not!
I have been skiing since high school when Mr. Peet took the high school students to Hidden Valley, which isn't operational anymore.
I remember learning to fall down and get up, very valuable information as you do lots of that!
When I attended SIAST (STIit was then) in Moose Jaw, my cousin Melanie and I joined the ski group and headed to Mission Ridge, Whitetrack and off to the mountains on a bus! What fun!
From there we joined the Regina Ski Club and went on yearly bus trips from Regina where we saw many slopes. . . Redlodge, Bridger Bowl, Kimberley.
My first family trip was when we took my nephew Cody to Redlodge, MT. Now that was a challenge to try to keep him from going straight down the mountain, he was only 5 but he wanted to go fast.
We have continued to ski most years since our teens, even if it was a trip to Mission Ridge or Wapiti Ski Hill by Melfort. Our kids all ski and many of our friends so each year we try to find somewhere to go.
I am not really sure of the attraction of skiing, I love when you go and the temperature is hovering near zero and the sun is shining brightly. We have seen bikinis on the slopes!!!
We have spent the last ten years or more skiing in Canada and this year we are going to head to Montana, where we spent many trips in the 80s.
I am not sure, but I think my last trip to Whitefish was 20 years ago when the Big Beaver or Coronach Kinsmen organized a trip.
A recent look at the photos from that trip bring back many memories and of course a few giggles at the hair dos!!
I hope you enjoyed your family day and if you have kids at home, you enjoy this mid-winter break. We always look forward to this break. It is always welcome mid the craziness of playoff hockey!
Well back to it when we head for Davidson on the 18th.
GO BRONCOS!!
