Coronach -

This week saw the closing of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. What a great two weeks!!
I wasn't able to watch much the first week as we were on holidays but the tv at the cabin was on the Olympics a fair share.
When I returned home our tv was almost always on the Olympics.
I, unfortunately, was witness to the horrifying accident that took the life of the Georgian Luge athlete and I was shaken by the continual coverage of that accident. It was inspirational to see the Georgian athletes honour their team mate by continuing in the games.
The games were filled with so many memorable moments. Who had a dry eye when Alexandre Bilodeau took gold and hugged his brother who suffers from Cerebral Palsy?
Or when Joannie Rochette skated after losing her mother, and then to win a Bronze medal and to carry the flag at the closing!!
And then each time our national anthem, O' Canada was played, more misty eyes!
How about that song "I Believe" and that 16 year old singing sensation! The song alone chokes me up but then when the song writer got emotional in front of a room full of Canadian Olympic medalists, wow. . . pass the kleenex!!!
I have always watched the Olympics, but I do not remember following the Olympics like I did this year. Good on Canada for creating the excitement they did!!
I believe, for me, the excitement began when people I knew had a part in the Olympic Torch Relay. I thought it was a great way to bring the country together and to let ordinary people play a part in a world-wide event.
It was so exciting to be at the Sportsplex during the gold medal hockey game! Everyone was trying to divide their time between the Midget game and the Olympic game. Thank goodness Sydney Crosby scored during an intermission and we all got to see it!!
When I went to the school the first day after the closing ceremonies, the little Inukshuks that are melting in the sun caused me a little sadness. I will miss the Olympics and all the joy that surrounded it! And I will miss the little Inukshuks when they are gone!
Have a great week everyone!

ATTA GO CANADA!!!
