On October 22, the Coronach bantam volleyball teams represented the Coronach pride and spirit well by both winning Section playoffs.

The Coronach Bantam girls competed in the league against Bengough, Assiniboia Composite High School (ACHS), Assiniboia Elementary 1 (AES 1) and Assiniboia Elementary 2 (AES 2).

The Bantam girls were nearly undefeated all season,  losing only one game to Glentworth in the Glentworth tournament. “We have played well throughout the year, even though we had some rollercoaster moments with serving.” said Miss Patty McLean, coach for the Bantam Girls.

Both the girls and boys teams traveled to Assiniboia on the 22 for Prairie South School Division Section Playoffs. The boys played at the Assiniboia Elementary School and girls played at the Assiniboia Composite High school.

In the Sections playoffs, the girls played AES 2 and ACHS in round robin, defeating both teams.  Coronach went up against Rockglen in the semi-finals and a win sent them to the finals against Bengough. “The game could have went either way” Miss Debra Karpinski added. Coronach defeated Bengough in the final, taking the gold medals. Coronach and Bengough both advance to Districts and will traveled to Rouleau on October 25.  The teams will play Rouleau, Avonlea, Glentworth and Gravelbourg. “The girls have worked hard and hopefully their work ethic can carry them through District playoffs. GO COLTS GO!” said McLean.

The boys competed in the league with Rockglen, Bengough, Assiniboia Elementary and Mossbank. The boys had a great year,  losing only once to Mossbank. In the Section Playoffs, at the Elementary School, the Coronach boys competed in a round robin with games against Assiniboia and Rockglen. Rockglen took them to 3 sets but Coronach beat them in the third set to advance to finals against the reigning section champions, Bengough. According to Mrs. Christa Elder, the coach of the boys, Coronach played one of the best games that season and beat Bengough in 2 sets to become the Section Champions. “Our team has played very well all year, we will be playing tough teams this weekend, but I think we can do well.” said Elder.

Coronach hosted Boys Bantam Districts on the October 28-29 weekend but did not have the list of teams at press time.
