The fourth annual Rockin’ Beach Mud Drag races were held on August 7 and 8 at the Rockin’ Beach Regional Park.
The event kicked off on Saturday at 4:00 with a demonstration race between two of the top ranked cars in the Canada Mud Racing Organization (CMRO), a Pro-modified and a Super-modified car. Crowd members were told to stay back from the track to avoid the mud and dirt, but no one was prepared for the first race that lasted only a few seconds and left the crowd covered in dirt! As well, the crowd enjoyed a freestyle motocross demonstration, where two riders performed high flying jumps and tricks.
After the initial shock wore off from the demo race between the two hopped up machines, the crowd settled into a day of entertaining and loud time trials.
The 50 or so trucks were divided into a number of divisions with the following results:

Organizer Tom McKee was thrilled to report the number of trucks entered in the races had doubled from last year’s races. New to the races, was the motocross jumping demonstrations and monster truck rides.
Eldon Walter reported 555 people attended the event over the two days. Although pleased to raise some money for the regional park, Walter would have been happy with a few more. “It’s kinda nice to have a bigger crowd, but we are limited in size. I think the heat kept a few away.” Walter keeps busy with community events, willing to pitch in to keep the local communities and facilities viable. “Whether it is the park, the rinks, the library, whatever, we have to keep them going!” said Walter.
The park was busy for the whole weekend, with racers filling up the campground. A concession was available over the weekend, and a beer garden served refreshments over the two days.
As in previous years, foot races in the mud were held, with 18 & under and 18 & over age groups.
The races were graced with clear skies and hot temperatures for their crowds to enjoy the outdoor entertainment.
